As manager, Darwin is responsible for coordinating daily operations, sales, hiring staff, training, ordering and reporting the store’s performance to head on a regular base.

Darwin came to New Zealand not knowing much about the world of business as his previous training background was in healthcare. He was drawn to the Cornell Institute and started his course in 2012 and successfully graduated in 2013. Darwin comments on his studies:

The business course at Cornell was very constructive with sections covering finance, customer service, how to manage staff and customers effectively. For me one of the most useful tools that I have had the chance to use in Starbucks is the accounting training covering prot and loss.The course and tutors as a whole helped me to develop personally in the area of condence and awareness of the industry sector in New Zealand.

Why Choose Starbucks? I fell in love with the brand, the environment was great, the chance to lead a team and I really enjoyed my place of work. There is a great management training scheme here in the Starbuck’s brand that I have had access to and the management have been very supportive towards developing my skill set. It’s given me a chance at a great future. I began the role not knowing anything about how to make a coee and as we know the brand is built on that. I worked hard and dedicated myself to the learning of all the recipes and building great customer service into my soft skills.
